Kisampa
is the result of a partnership between the villagers in the southern part of the Saadani ecosystem and Sanctuary Tanzania Limited. This socially and environmentally responsible partnership aims to conserve the pristine environment on the southwestern borders of the Saadani National Park for future generations of Tanzanians, whilst at the same time providing meaningful reward to the communities.
Sample Itinerary 2009
Day 1 Activity: Objectives/Rational:
Arrival Arrival in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania
Either land or air transport to Kisampa Private Conservation Area By vehicle takes 3 hours. By aircraft takes 30 minutes.
Camp arrival by vehicle Arrival at Wami River crossing area
* Safety briefing and river crossing. Water/river safety incorporated into leadership activity.
Mustering at Kisampa side.
Wilderness safety brief followed by
Bush walk.
Camp arrival by aircraft Arrival at Matipwili Airstrip and transfer to Kisampa Camp
At Camp * Arrival at Camp
* Introduction to camp, the week's
program and accommodation
allocation.
* Allocation of next activity. Safety considerations, Camp lay out, Environmental considerations, Itinerary, Program Facilitators, etc.
Wilderness awareness activity.

Day 2 Activity: Objectives/Rational:
Morning *Bush and Survival activities with emphasis on Teamwork and Team building.
Moderate to high energy practical bush work, combined with theory assignments in the Kisampa Wilderness Area.

Moderate impact practical work, combined with theory assignments in the Kisampa Wilderness Area.

Day 3 Activity: Objectives/Rational:
Entire day * Community Service Day;
For example Assisting in the upgrading of the local Medical Dispensary, tree planting,
Soccer challenge with local school kids, renovating classrooms.
To interact in a meaningful way with local school children. The specific activities can be tailored to the school group objectives and needs of community at time of visit. Number of days spent in community is entirely flexible and at discretion of group leaders.
Day 4 Activity: Objectives/Rational:
morning *Wilderness First Aid in the Kisampa Wilderness Area.
Moderate energy bush walking combined with theory and practical First Aid assignments.
* The Great Kisampa Quest. Competition which incorporates Teamwork, Leadership skills, Wilderness Survival, Bush Awareness and Wilderness First Aid.
*Dinner followed by evening activity.
Various presentations around the camp fire.
Note: The Great Kisampa Quest team competition will start on arrival at Kisampa and continue throughout the program, with the main component taking place on the last afternoon. This helps occupy any "free time" there may be.
Time Day 5 Activity: Objectives/Rational:
All Day Day trip into Saadani National Park to include river boat cruise to see hippos crocodiles and birds, Picnic lunch at the beach and afternoon game drive back to Kisampa Camp to arrive at camp for evening camp fire and meal. Introduction to African Wildlife.
Time Day 6 Activity: Objectives/Rational:
Morning * Great Kisampa Quest Prize giving
Followed by program debriefing Issue of Kisampa Wilderness Certificates and additional awards for special achievements.
River crossing and farewell. To join outgoing international flight.
Note: Number of days is at total discretion of visiting groups.
All program activities are presented with detailed instructions and objective(s). Debriefing sessions will take place during or after activity sessions to encourage participants to link the experience back to their daily lives where possible.
Activities in sample itinerary are centred around a Bush Survival and Team Building theme but can be on any theme/themes such as environment, conservation, sport, cultural activities, wildlife, team building communication, life skills etc and may change and/or be replaced with others due to weather, group size, logistic or other factors. Additional activities can include visit to Saadani National Park as a day trip from Kisampa. Additional destinations can be organised in Tanzania at the request of group leaders either on a group basis or individually as an add on activity to the main curriculum.
